Computational Design of Laser-Cut Bending-Active Structures

We propose a method to automatically design bending-active structures, made of wood, whose silhouettes at equilibrium match desired target curves. Our approach is based on the use parametric pattern that regularly laser-cut structure and allows us locally modulate bending stiffness material. To make problem tractable, we rely two-scale where first compute mapping between average mechanical properties periodically samples mdf treated here as metamaterials , parameters reduced 2D model; then, given an input shape, select this model give silhouette profile. validate our both numerically experimentally by fabricating number full scale structures varied shapes. • Parametric family with tunable capabilities. Homogenization for Bending metamaterials. Two-scale algorithm inverse structures.
